Libya general vows to take Benghazi, urges foreign support Libya general vows to take Benghazi, urges foreign support Mar 17, 2015 4:21PM Al Marj (Libya) (AFP) - Libya's new army chief Khalifa Haftar on Monday promised his forces would seize Benghazi from Islamist militias within a month and called for wider support from the international community. In an interview with AFP at his military compound about 100 kilometres (60 miles) northeast of second city Benghazi, he said his forces would press to take the city by the middle of April and urged the international community to "stand with the Libyan army". "We will end in very little time the presence of the enemy and terrorists in the region. Operations in the city of Benghazi will end before the middle of next month," Haftar said. "No doubt the international community knows the depth of the crisis Libya is experiencing since the overthrow of Moamer Kadhafi, with the absence of law, public order and the rise of militant groups" linked to the Islamic State organisation, he said. Haftar, 72, was sworn in on March 9 as the new army chief in conflict-ridden Libya and promoted to general, a week after his nomination by the elected parliament. He said that Islamist militias have flourished in the absence of public institutions, "pushing the country further towards extremism and terrorism" and "stripping Libyans of life, security and development". He said the offensive in Benghazi, which he has dubbed Operation Dignity, was to "answer the repeated calls of the Libyan people for the return of the army to combat terrorism in the region". Last May, Haftar launched an offensive against Islamists in the country's east focused on Benghazi but has so far failed to take the city. - 'Modern' Libyan military - He said "the Libyan army does not and would not interfere in the political process because it is the guardian and protector against anyone trying to disrupt the democratic process by force." Haftar added he plans to rebuild his military's infrastructure to match "modern" standards, while fighting Islamist militias at the same time. Since the 2011 overthrow of Kadhafi in a NATO-backed uprising, Libya has been wracked by conflict, with rival governments and powerful militias battling for control of key cities and the country's oil riches. The North African country has two parliaments and two governments. The internationally recognised legislature was elected in June and is based in the eastern city of Tobruk, while the rival Islamist-backed General National Congress (GNC) is in the capital, Tripoli. The Tobruk government has repeatedly asked the UN Security Council sanctions committee to lift an arms embargo imposed following the 2011 uprising. Britain, France and the United States oppose scrapping the embargo, arguing that it would fuel violence, but diplomats have stressed that arms contracts can be approved by the sanctions committee on a case-by-case basis. Earlier this month the United Nations put on hold its approval to allow the internationally backed government in Libya to buy fighter jets. Last week EU foreign ministers gave the green light for the bloc to prepare a possible security mission in Libya once the country's warring factions agree a national unity government, as talks between them continue. Talks between the rival parliaments on forming a unity government are due to resume on Thursday in Morocco, the United Nations has said.

4 Days of Anti-war events in US

Wed Mar 18, 2015 4:38PM

The organizers have planned rallies, cultural programs and teach-ins to draw attention to US military interventions across the globe.
The events, which are dubbed as Spring Rising, are being held to mark the 12th anniversary of US invasion of Iraq. They will be staged from March 18 to March 21 in Washington, DC and several other cities of the country.
Cindy Sheehan (pictured below at an anti-war rally), whose son, US Army Specialist Casey Sheehan, was killed in the Iraq War, said, “Spring Rising is intended as an antiwar intervention into the world capital of war-making.”

“The US has spread its military across the globe and is engaged in wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and, via drone strikes, in Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia. The US government is provoking Russia in Ukraine and Eastern Europe, pushing for another coup in Venezuela and expanding its military presence in Asia and Africa,” she added.
“The current problem is NOT that the US finally withdrew military forces from Iraq in 2012, but its illegitimate invasions in 1991 and 2003,” said Debra Sweet, director of World Can't Wait.
“The US occupation was conducted in a lawless way, destroying their education, legal, medical, water, sewage, security and electrical systems, setting the stage for the rise of ISIS [ISIL],” she said.
The US and its allies invaded Iraq in March 2003 under the pretext that former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction.
In October 2004, however, a CIA report revealed that Saddam did not possess any weapons of mass destruction at the time of the invasion.
The activists say the US occupation of Iraq was conducted in a lawless way, and set the stage for the rise of the ISIL terrorist group.

They say the US military cannot stop the ISIL violence, and nothing good can come from US-led coalition airstrikes against the Takfiri terrorists.
Since late September, the US and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out airstrikes against ISIL inside Syria without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate.
US warplanes have been conducting airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq since early August. Some Western states have also participated in some of the strikes in Iraq.
The US-led coalition has done little to stop the ISIL's advances in parts of Syria and in western Iraq.
Some analysts have criticized the aerial military campaign in Syria, saying the strikes are meant to destroy the Arab country's infrastructure.
Alan Sabrosky, a US Marine Corps veteran, has said that the United States’ airstrikes in Syria often target militants with “no military value” and actually aim at the country’s infrastructure.

I would urge all Americans with a sense of decency to attend these protests, show the world it is not the citizens who are evil, but the wretched government of gangsters.

Obama is a war criminal and must stand trial for crimes against humanity.

Then the US should quit funding and sharing technology for starters.

The US Neocons did not get their war on Syria after the chemical weapons false flag operation, thanks to Russia's diplomatic work.
However, they did not go away, they never sleep. They will continue to do anything to destabilize the ME for Israel's sake, their evil knows no bounds. The US has recently admitted the illegal Iraq invasion gave rise to ISIL.
The good news is that "the cat is out of the bag", the world sees zionists for what they are and that they control the US.The US flag is now synonymous with the Israeli flag. Israel will destroy the US by bankrupting them with war costs. Collectively americans have supported Israel's evil, and collectively they will suffer the consequences.
A better world is ahead, too bad so many people have to suffer in the meantime.

March 10, 2015 posting ... MARLIN FIREARMS IS CLOSING ITS DOORS Even if you do not own a gun you need to know this. This was checked on "Truth or Fiction" who verified it. They can be trusted more than Snopes. Marlin Firearms is already closing its doors! They are doing it to us, America! All gun owners and sportsmen/women need to see this. We cannot rely on the media to inform us of these types of happenings. Something you may not know that Is happening! Who is buying the companies manufacturing guns??? For the last several years a company called The Freedom Group has been buying up gun and ammunition manufacturers. Some of the companies are Bushmaster, Marlin, Remington, DPMS, Dakota Arms and H&R. Some people worry that this Freedom Group is going to control most of the firearms companies in the United States. If you control the manufacturers you can decide to stop selling to civilians. What a perfect way to control guns. Now if you do some digging you will see that The Freedom Group is owned by a company called Cerberus Capital Management. Guess who controls Cerberus??? GEORGE SOROS, Obama's chief financier!! He wants to restrict or ban all civilian guns. Please pass this on to all your freedom loving friends. This needs to come out. Why have we not heard about this in the "mainstream" media? I would think this would be BIG news. (Soros also owns Progressive Insurance - Flo). If you don't know who George Soros is, you need to do some research. This One-World Government atheist backed Obama with millions of dollars and Obama is a puppet on a string controlled by Soros.

Please remember, supporting Russia is not optional. It is something we must do. If Russia falls it's Game Over. Because China cannot defeat NATO on it's own. Be ready to take to the streets if it looks like Russia is going to fall. It is something we CANNOT allow.
